NBL Round 10 (Regular Season): Leader Sharks get another victory

NBL is at the halfway of the Regular Season and there are still another 10 rounds left. The round 10 was rather boring as all games ended with very predictable results. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Leader Sharks delivered the ninth win on Sunday night. This time they beat 5th ranked Nuggets (5-4) 99-89 in Dunedin. Sharks forced 21 Nuggets turnovers. Strangely Nuggets outrebounded Sharks 42-30 including 27 on the defensive glass. American guard Caleb Asberry (191-2000, college: OK State) fired 29 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. The other American import forward Keylan Boone (203-2000, college: UNLV) chipped in 16 points and 11 rebounds. American swingman Buay Tuach (198-1995, college: LMU, agency: Haylett Sports) produced a double-double by scoring 25 points and 12 rebounds for lost side. Sharks (9-2) have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain first position. Nuggets at the other side keep the fifth place with four games lost. Sharks are looking forward to face Bulls (#6) in Pukekohe in the next round where they are favorite. Nuggets will play on the road against Saints in Wellington and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Pukekohe supposed to be also worth to mention about. Third ranked Tuatara (8-2) played at the court of 6th ranked Bulls (4-6). Tuatara smashed Bulls 107-72. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward Isaac Davidson (201-1997, college: Sonoma St.) who helped to win the game recording 22 points. Robert Loe contributed with 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American guard Jace Carter (198-2003, college: Texas A&M) replied with 9 points and 15 rebounds for Bulls. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Tuatara have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Rams. Bulls at the other side keep the sixth position with six games lost. Tuatara will play against Airs (#9) in New Plymouth in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Bulls will play on the road against the league's leader Sharks in Southland and hope to get back on the winning track.

Rest of the games of round 10 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
bottom-ranked Hawks were crushed by Saints in Wellington 107-79. Airs were beaten by Jets at home 77-89. Bottom-ranked Hawks lost to Whai on the opponent's court 88-94. Rams outscored Giants in a home game 93-74.



Saints - Hawks 107-79

There was no surprise in Wellington where 11th ranked Hawks (2-8) were crushed by fifth ranked Saints (6-3) 107-79. Saints players were unselfish on offense dishing 33 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Hawks' players. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Elijah Pepper (193-2001, college: UC Davis) who helped to win the game recording 26 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. International Carlin Davison (197-2003) contributed with a triple-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists for the winners. International guard Jackson Ball (191-2008) replied with 29 points and American Jeremy McLaughlin (203-1995, college: Catawba) added 14 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Hawks. Five Saints and four Hawks players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion moved-up to fourth place. Hawks lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with eight games lost. Saints will play against Nuggets (#5) in Dunedin in the next round. Hawks will play at home against Giants (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams in New Plymouth where eighth ranked Jets (4-7) defeated 7th ranked Airs (3-7) 89-77. Jets had a 33-20 advantage in offensive rebounds. Airs were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Jamal Poplar (204-1996, college: Seward County) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points and 14 rebounds. The former international guard Tai Webster (193-1995, college: Nebraska) contributed with 16 points and 6 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Poplar is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Jets players scored in double figures. They dropped to the ninth position with seven games lost. Jets will play against higher ranked Saints (#4) in Wellington in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Airs will play at home against Tuatara (#3) and hope to get back on the winning track.

International power forward Jack Andrew (208-2001) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Five Rams players scored in double figures.
